Speaking At The vBusiness Expo - What You Need To Know

While there's nothing too complicated about participating in the vBusiness Expo, there are some basic procedures you should be aware of that make it different from other events you might have been to.

Note: if something goes wrong, refer to the Panic Sheet.

Schedule

  • Please arrive at Zebra Crossing (click here to be teleported) in the stage area 30 minutes ahead of time to reserve your place on the server and avoid being locked out due to capacity limits.
  • We will call you via Skype when its time for your session.
  • You'll be prompted and helped with what to do on the call, but off-air.
  • Plan on finishing at least 5 minutes before the scheduled end of your session as we'll need to take a few minutes to call the next person on the schedule and get them set up.

Slides

Please have your slides delivered to caleb@cleverzebra.com by Tues 22nd April as a regular PPT file or a series of JPGs. If you're comfortable using the Presenter to do your own slides, be our guest. If you'd rather not have one more thing to worry about, just say "next slide please" when you want us to flip slides.

Sound Check

  • Mute Second Life voice
  • Mute your mic if possible when not speaking
  • Avoid breathing directly into the microphone
  • Turn off your speakers please - always wear earphones
  • A headset is always better than a mic and earphones
  • If you get IM's or text chat about your voice, ignore them. Assume everything is perfect unless the Clever Zebra voice engineer tells you otherwise (really, someone will always have a problem with sound. We will help those people individually).

Tips

  • Do not look at Second Life chat or IM's at all once on the call
  • Do not read or respond to IM's, or text chat inworld during the call
  • Do have a fun time presenting, just like on a teleconference to co-workers
  • If you haven't already done so, follow this procedure now to prevent your avatar from falling asleep: CTRL-ALT-SHIFT-D, Advanced -> Character -> Character Tests -> Go Away/AFK When Idle (click this to make the X go away)

If you have any questions don't hesitate to get in touch. Thank you for speaking at the vBusiness Expo!
